Mandya is a city and district in the state of Karnataka in India. The name comes from a saint Mandavya. Mandya is 40 km from Mysore and 100 km from Bangalore. The district is home to the famous Brindavan Gardens, Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir, The Shivana Samudram waterfalls with their hydroelectricity generation plant, Srirangapatnam (capital city of Tipu Sultan), and the Melukote temple. The Cauvery River is the main water source of Mandya, through Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir. Rice and sugarcane are the main crops. It is also called the Sugar Cup of Karnataka.
Prime Attractions Srirangapatnam Capital of Tipu Sultan, it is situated on an island of Cauvery river. It houses Tipu's Tomb, Summer Palaces and the Ranganatha Swamy Temple.
Melukote The hilltop Temple of Narayana was made famous by Shri Ramanuja. The main deity is Cheluva Narayana a beautiful idol.
Ranganathittu Sanctuary A world famous bird sanctuary. It draws birds from as far off as Siberia and Australia.
Kokrebellur Another bird sanctuary known for variety of birds.
Bhimeshwari On the back of Cauvery River, a fishing camp that is famous for its Mahseer fish.
