Kolar travel information, Karnataka

The town of Kolar is located at the intersection of three southern states (Karnataka, Tamilnadu, and Andhra Pradesh) and serves as the headquarters of a district by the same name. Once a center of gold mining (Kolar Gold Fields), today agriculture and sericulture are the primary professions of people of Kolar.

Archaeologically, the town of Kolar and nearby places offers a wealth of artifacts for historians. The Kolaramma temple is a rare tantric temple in which some of the ancient tantric rituals are depicted. A rare memorial to a learned woman scholar (Savinirmadi) has been found in Kolar.

Tourist Attractions
Once the capital of Ganga kings. It has two ancient temples - Kolaramma and Someshwara. Kolar is the haunt of rock climbers.

Chintamani
Founded by a Maratha chieftian. Now it is a busting industrial town specializing in Gold, Silver and precious stones.

KGF
The oldest and the deepest gold mines in the country, founded by the British.

Nandi Hills
The summer retreat of Tipu Sultan, Nandi Hills was popular with the British and favourite weekend spot for Bangaloreans.

Chikka Tirupati
Famous for Vishnu temple and is worshipped as Venkata Ramma Swamy in Malur Taluk.

Bethamangala
It is a small town on the right bank of River Palar. Two old stones worshipped dating back to 904 and 944 AD.
